Banana
“When you consider the radiance, that it does not withhold itself”
- A. R. Ammons (The City Limits)
I flip back
the flimsy
leopard skin
and take a bite
out of a ripe
banana
it curves out
from my hand
like a
honeysuckle stamen
the underside
of the peel
relaxed
into cold white petals
the center of my body
(my stomach
and intestines in
total darkness)
takes apart this
product of light
all in an urgency
out of my control
all in the insistent sweetness
to live another day
by Michael Klenda
